peacock-ceramic-vaseMaterials:

  • greenware vase – cleaned, fired and glazed inside
  • gesso
  • #400 and #600 sandpaper
  • black and white bird and flower prints
  • Prismacolor pencils
  • decoupage scissors
  • glue
  • Benjamin Moore water base varnish

Apply evenly 3 coats of gesso and lightly wet sand. Repeat these steps until vase is baby bottom smooth. Color peacock eye feathers with emerald, green bice, and pink for center. Body feathers are indigo, green bice, and ultra marine. Blend with white and repeat colors as needed. Color flowers in shades of pink and orange. Leaves and base are aquamarine, slate gray, green bice, and emerald. Stay in the same color range throughout. Cut prints and glue or if print paper is thin, use varnish to glue the cut print to vase. Finish with 8 to 10 coats of varnish, sanding between with #400 wet sandpaper. (Don’t leave “shinies” between sanding!) When smooth as silk, wet sand with # 600 sandpaper.
