3rd International Traditional Découpage Convention
& 1st Training Course for Candidate Teachers of Traditional Découpage
Dear Friends of Découpage,
We are pleased to invite you to the 3rd International Convention and the 1st two day training course for teaching candidates of Traditional Découpage, which for the first time will take place in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki with the support of our Guild’s Greek chapter.
One of the most famous painters of the 20th century, Henri Matisse, stated that: "when drawing with scissors....the cutouts then allow me to draw in color." Let us therefore respond to this challenge to draw in color with scissors! We are waiting for you at the Vafopoulio Cultural Center from May 28th to June 1st, where our main goal is to absorb the art of découpage, with a full program of demonstrations and seminars to further our knowledge of traditional découpage, i.e. cutting, composition and finishing all combined with many modern techniques. At the end of the Convention, a two-day training course, 2-3 June, will be held for the candidate teachers of traditional decoupage by our established Master Craftsmen. In the attachments you will find the first draft of the general program and more detailed updates will follow.
So do not miss this opportunity to experience unique moments of friendship both with new and old friends, who will be united with our love of découpage and the passion for creating at the nymph of Thermaikos, the welcoming city of Thessaloniki. You will have the chance to visit the archaeological sites, museums and monuments and sample local cuisine and enjoy the nightlife. Bearing in mind that Francis Henry Taylor (Director of the Metropolitan Museum of New York from 1940 to 1955) in his book “Art Treasures of the Metropolitan”, amongst the art works he also mentions the museum's decoupage art, so we welcome your participation to help contribute in achieving our goal so that our convention is the start and a source of inspiration for future découpeurs.
Yours sincerely,
Caterina Koukoulitsa (Chair)
Sissy Kinatidou &Anna Marintsiou (Co-Chairs)
