I was introduced to Découpage by a friend in 1980. At the time I was really not impressed with the craft. I had a lot of time on my hands and decided to take a beginners course, needless to say I was hooked. I took more courses locally and I started teaching and joined the American Guild of Découpeurs. I am a founder member of the Chapter of the American Guild of Découpeurs which was formed in Durban in 1982. I went to several American Conventions and was taught all the découpage techniques by the top American teachers. I did my judges training in the American Judging rooms and qualified as an International Judge.
Teaching is my primary objective, with quality and good workmanship top of the list. I advise anyone interested in découpage to get proper tuition, where possible, to help you to understand the technique you want to master. I am still teaching all découpage techniques from my home studio. I cannot imagine my life without découpage. I made many dear friends through découpage. It helped me through tough times and gave me much joy while designing and creating many beautiful pieces.
When the South African Guild of Découpeurs was formed in 2001 I was appointed Judging Chairman. After all these years I still find new ways to use all the techniques and it still gives me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction. I am also a keen Egg Artist and offer courses in Egg Art whenever time allows.
